Biometric readers for attendance and access control

Access and attendance control systems are extremely useful for places where an identification process is needed for access, where it is necessary to record entry and exit times (or attendance time), or where it is necessary to control that access is only allowed for people with a certain security profile. This access control can be carried out in many ways, but the most commonly used in companies for controlling employee access or monitoring their attendance time is through readers installed at the company entrance. These readers can be of many types depending on the level of security we want to implement or what our facilities require. From the simplest, like the numeric code assigned to each employee, to facial recognition or fingerprint systems, with completely non-transferable credentials. Depending on the identification needs and the level of privacy, access to the facilities desired at any given moment will be better served by an RFID card model where a card or RFID access tags are sufficient (with the consequent risk of card or tag exchange) or it will be necessary to have a fingerprint or biometric identification system, where identification is unique and non-transferable by necessity. The lighting conditions, access level, type of work, and the area of the facilities where it is implemented will determine the type of access control system that the organization needs.

• The RFID access control system is compact and has very small dimensions that can be integrated anywhere and allows access by opening doors, turnstiles, or any other system. These models usually come with very simple software that identifies the user with their card, although it does not guarantee that the card owner is the one who activated the access control.
• The fingerprint access control system, despite needing a larger device volume, can be located practically anywhere and its identification system is unique and non-transferable. It has a reader that detects when a person places their finger on the fingerprint reader, and the scanning is immediate, allowing for unequivocal and completely private access.
• The biometric reading access control system consists of a device that has a camera and an infrared lighting system that, upon detecting a human figure in front, activates the scanner detecting key points on the user’s face. This data is compared with the information configured during the user’s registration in the access control system, and if correct, it validates automatically. These systems are completely secure and, like facial identification systems on mobile devices, do not differentiate between having eyes closed, open, or different facial expressions.
