PVC card printer consumables from Qualica-RD cover the full range of ribbons, films and maintenance kits for the three printing technologies in use today: retransfer, direct-to-card sublimation and direct thermal. The line-up includes YMCKO colour ribbons, monochrome panels in six colours, composite kits with peel-off and UV, retransfer films, lamination and scratch-off tapes, and original cleaning kits. Using genuine Qualica-RD consumables protects the printer warranty, keeps print quality consistent and stabilises the cost per card across the equipment lifetime.
Each printing technology (retransfer, direct-to-card sublimation and direct thermal) uses its own consumables, which are not interchangeable. The category groups the three families so that integrators and production managers can identify the right replacement at a glance.
Colour ribbons print full-colour images directly onto the card surface or, in retransfer printers, onto the carrier film. The naming convention describes the panels: YMCKO (Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black + protective Overlay), YMCKPo (colour + peel-off that removes the protective layer from predefined areas, common in gift and loyalty cards) and YMCKK (colour + double black for back-side numbering in a single pass). Qualica-RD supplies certified colour ribbons for its printers with stable yields of 100-300 prints per roll depending on the model.
Monochrome ribbons print a single colour across the full card and are used for serial numbers, numbering, corporate backgrounds or budget branding. Qualica-RD offers monochrome panels in black, red, blue, white, gold and silver, with yields of 1,200 to 3,000 prints per roll depending on the colour and printer model. The line is completed with special ribbons: scratch-off for lottery or promo cards, hologram and clear for lamination and tamper-resistant security credentials.
Retransfer films and lamination ribbons are critical consumables for retransfer technology and for projects that require high-security, long-life credentials.
The retransfer film is the carrier film onto which the printer lays the image before transferring it to the card. Every print consumes one section of film, so film yield is directly tied to ribbon yield. Qualica-RD supplies original films for its TITAN and DRAGON retransfer printers, calibrated to work at 600 dpi without colour drift or edge loss. Non-original films are the most common cause of banding and registration errors.
Lamination ribbons add a transparent 1.0 mil (25 µm) layer on top of the printed card, providing protection against UV light, abrasion, chemicals and tampering. Qualica-RD offers three versions: standard laminate, Smart Cut Type A (in-line cuttable with defined cut) and Smart Cut Type B (in-line cuttable without predefined cut, for custom designs). Hologram ribbons combine physical protection with visual authentication, and are used in government, financial and high-security access credentials.
Choosing the right consumable is not just about colour: you need to match the reference to the exact printer model. An incompatible ribbon can damage the thermal print head or leave the image half-printed.
Qualica-RD structures its consumables line into three families aligned with its printers: retransfer consumables for TITAN and DRAGON (YMCKO ribbons with film, premium monochrome and lamination), direct-to-card sublimation consumables for the 500 double-sided and compatible models (YMCKO 300 dpi ribbons, monochrome 1,200-3,000 prints) and direct thermal consumables for Phoenix, 301 and N (monochrome 300 dpi ribbons and specific consumables). Every ribbon reference explicitly states which printers it fits, eliminating buying errors.
To keep yield and print quality stable, consumables must be stored in their original packaging, in a dry environment (30-60 % relative humidity), at a stable temperature (15-25 °C) and protected from direct light. Qualica-RD recommends a FIFO (first in, first out) policy and using each roll within 12 months of opening. Poorly stored ribbons can cause faded images, feed errors and overlay misalignment.
| Ribbon family | Target technology | Composition | Typical prints / roll | Compatible Qualica-RD models | Recommended use |

A YMCKO ribbon prints full colour and applies a transparent protective overlay across the entire card. A YMCKPo ribbon replaces the overlay panel with a peel-off panel that can be removed after printing, leaving a scratch or wipe-off area, typical of gift, loyalty or promo cards. Both are used in direct-to-card sublimation.
A genuine Qualica-RD retransfer ribbon yields 1,000 prints per roll in YMCKO configuration, working together with the retransfer film. Non-original ribbons or films reduce the yield, degrade image quality and may void the printer warranty.
No. Each monochrome ribbon reference explicitly states which models it fits. For example, the 659299 black monochrome ribbon (1,200 prints) is compatible with QUALICA-RD and QUALICA-RD 300, while the gold monochrome ribbon (3,000 prints) is calibrated for QUALICA-RD 5000. Buying an incompatible ribbon can damage the thermal print head.
A cleaning kit includes pre-impregnated cards and swabs to clean the thermal print head, the feed rollers and the ribbon path. Qualica-RD recommends using it every 1,000-2,000 prints, or whenever the printer prompts, to keep image quality high and extend the print-head life. It is a required consumable in any professional maintenance contract.
Original Qualica-RD consumables are calibrated to the print-head temperature, feed speed and ribbon tension of each model. Non-certified compatible consumables can cause colour drift, card jams, premature print-head wear and, critically, loss of the official printer warranty.
